For the past fifteen years, we have been honoring mothers who, within the confines of their homes, have been successful in balancing motherhood with their business, their profession and in their community.

Their own children, or a close relative, normally present the story of their journey in life. These women are not celebrities on TV networks, or in Hollywood but they are celebrities as mothers because of what they have accomplished in a very humble, loving, caring, nurturing way.

Our Sweet Mother events have also honored foster mothers, single mothers, and adoptive mothers. All of them demand our appreciation as they have all played the role successfully.

Part of the proceeds of our event will go towards the education of girls at the Forum of African Women in Education School in Waterloo village, in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Waterloo is a village which is outside the capital of Sierra Leone and most of the girls who are enrolled in this school are girls who may not have had access to education.  Some of them were rape victims during the 10 years of devastating war in Sierra Leone.

The Forum of African Women in Education is an organization which was formed by four African Women who were Ministers of Education in their respective countries. The main objective is to provide education to the "girl child" in  Africa who through the traditional beliefs of the countries to which she belong would not have had access to education because in some African countries some girls get married at a very early age.

Meet Our Founder

Ms. Eugenia Chinsman

In 2004 Eugenia Chinsman moved to Norwalk, CT from Manhattan where she lived for 18 years. Her husband, Dr. Babashola Chinsman who worked for the United Nations Development Program for 25 retired from the UNDP and they made a decision to move to Connecticut a State that is dear to their hearts.

A year later whilst trying to establish her Travel business she met Sophia Adade a mother of two girls and a son Eddie. During her conversation with Sophia she learned that Sophia left her Pharmaceutical Career to stay at home with Eddie her precious son with special needs. Eddie is an Autistic child.
Eddie had not uttered a word since he was born. It was through Sophia’s hard work and perseverance as a devoted, dedicated and caring mother that Eddie uttered his first word at age ten. Today Eddie can make lots of sentences and Sophia has continued to care for him in an amazing way. It was the outstanding strength in this “Ordinary Mother” that Eugenia saw that gave her the vision to start a “Sweet Mother” Event.

The objective of the “Sweet Mother” event is to celebrate the outstanding strength in ordinary mothers like Sophia who within the confines of their homes have been successful in balancing motherhood with their business, their profession and in their community. Sophia Adade was the first Mother of the Year of the “Sweet Mother Event”.

In the past 15 years, the Sweet Mother event has honored 52 women in the following categories: Mother of the Year, Woman of Distinction, Outstanding Business Woman, Community Advocate. Renaissance Woman of the Year, Community Leader and Emerging Young Professionals. The Awards ceremony is held annually at a Gala Dinner Dance in Connecticut.
